Lady Raiders wrap up play at ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – Highlighted by two ranked singles wins from sophomore Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders finished up competition at the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday afternoon.
Five Lady Raiders competed in the pre-qualifying singles draw at the start of the tournament. Dmitrichenko was able to pick up two solid wins and was one away from advancing into the qualifying draw. First, she recorded her first career ranked win when she defeated six-seeded and No. 96-ranked Leonie Schuknecht (Miami) in two, 6-0, 6-3. She then took down No. 89 Xinyu Cai (Wisconsin) in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Senior Metka Komac added another ranked win for Tech after beating nine-seeded and No. 101-ranked Daniella Medvedeva (Clemson) by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Junior Cristina Tiglea picked up a victory over Old Dominion's Sofia Johnson, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, to round out the pre-qualifying singles draw.
On to the doubles side of tournament, Mariya Polishchuk and Tiglea paired up and competed in the qualifying draw. They were able to win their first-round match against Arizona State duo Marianna Argyrokastriti and Giulia Morlet, 8-7 (2).
The No. 15-ranked tandem of Avelina Sayfetdinova and Komac advanced to the Round of 16 in the doubles main draw when they overtook the Tennessee pair of Esther Adeshina and Sofia Cabezas, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Up next, Texas Tech heads to Waco for the ITA Texas Regionals Tournament from Oct. 12-16.
