LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders women's tennis team has signed Elena Daskalova for the 2024 signing class as announced by head coach Adam Herendeen on Wednesday afternoon.
"Elena was one of the first recruits I watched when I started at Texas Tech and I knew right away she would be the perfect fit," Herendeen said. "She is a hard worker and we are confident she will blossom in our team environment as she is a gifted athlete with tremendous character."
Daskalova is a five-star recruit, the Lady Raiders' fourth in the last five seasons, who is coming to Tech from Olathe, Kan. She is a top-50 recruit in the 2024 class, has a 9.44 UTR and is the No. 1-ranked recruit in the state of Kansas. Daskalova totals 20 singles wins and 27 doubles victories in the 2023 season, with nine of those coming against other 5-star players.
Recently, Daskalova was a doubles quarterfinalist in the USTA Girls' 18s National Clay Court Championships in July, while also advancing through two rounds of singles at the same tournament. In late 2022, Daskalova made it to the doubles semifinals of the Girls' 16 National Indoor Championships, and in addition, was the singles runner-up in the competition.
Daskalova also advanced to the Round of 32 of the USTA Billie Jean King Girls' 16 & 18 National Championships and was a singles quarterfinalist at the Girls' 18 & Under tournament in Midland, Texas last month.
"We see the potential for her to improve quickly and have a chance to make an immediate impact. We cannot wait to get her on campus and start working with her," Herendeen added.
