Stone inks seven in 2023 NSD class
December 19, 2023 | Women's Soccer
The Red Raiders added seven newcomers ahead of the 2024 season
LUBBOCK, Texas – Highlighted by an addition from IMG Academy, a signee from Portland, one from Chicago and four from the State of Texas, head coach Tom Stone and the Texas Tech Soccer program have added seven newcomers for the 2024 season.
Â
The class includes (in alphabetical order): Jules Burrows (Midlothian, Texas | Midfielder), Peyton Dyuss (Lewisville, Texas | Outside Back), Jaime Elias (Winnetka, Ill. | Outside Back), Alana Harry (Portland, Ore | Midfielder/Forward), Kendall Jones (San Antonio, Texas | Defender), Logan Russo (Amherst, Ohio | IMG Academy | Midfielder) and Sabrina Schilt (Plano, Texas | Goalkeeper).
Â
"I think big picture between myself, Nick [Hallam], Blair [Quinn] and [former associate head coach] Gibbs [Keaton] we all agreed that this would be a need-based recruiting class because our 2023 team is so young, and we have so many young players that are getting minutes. A lot of our top players are quite young, and we're going to need to replace a lot of seniors, but we feel like a lot of those replacements can be found on our current roster. So, we were very specific, which I think generally is how classes are built across the country, but sometimes it feels more specific than others, and this one felt very position based on what we needed now and who could grow into a role later. We're really thrilled with the group we have coming in. It's true that North and South Texas, our home state, is a breeding ground for unbelievable female soccer player, so we tend to have a very Texas based roster because we don't need to go very far. We go into Colorado quite often with our connections there and with the number of outstanding players out of Colorado with Real Colorado and Rushing Rapids is amazing. Those are our main stomping ground for the top players we recruit. This time we saw some players that had talent and some avenues in their game that we couldn't find in our backyard, and so we didn't hesitate to go after them. Fortunately for us, their families were a fit and some had history in our part of the state and country. Once they got down here, they found what we've found, that this is a great place to live, go to college and play soccer. So, we're excited about the class. There are some here from Texas and some from the outside, and we're excited to get them on campus."

STONE ON BURROWS:
"We've known Jules since she was like 12. She's been coming to camp and we've watched her play for her outstanding Solar team. She's gotten great coaching and has developed through the years. She was showing up on campus for games quite a bit and also came to train with us at our summer camps. We watched her grow up and knew from the beginning the year she was graduated we would have a need in the midfielder because of who we were graduating, and she is a tremendous talent. She can use both feet, is extremely athletic and very technical. Amongst all over her easy and flowing and rhythmic play, she has a cannon. If we can talk her into using, she can set up people to score and score herself. It's time. She's ready to make the jump to college soccer and we're glad it's now. Jules will come in and big asset for us."

STONE ON RUSSO:
Â
"We have some great connections at IMG Academy, people that we trust, and people's kids who are there that we trust. So, we were able to find out a lot about Logan from the environment. What kind of kid she was, what her family was like. All those things. Nick Hallam was like 'Coach if I have to buy the plane ticket for you and drive you to the airport I will, you have to go down and see Logan Russo at IMG.' So, it was a fit because we have need for some attacking minded people because we're going to graduate G [Gisselle Kozarski] and Alex Kerr. We have some really good attacking players on the team, but attacking mids are hard to come by in some cases. Although next year Peyton Parsons will do great for us and we return Sam [Courtwright] who was Big 12 Freshman of the Year. We know we have some, but you have to have to players like Logan when you see them because she's lightning fast, extremely technical and can score. We were thrilled that she enjoyed her visit her as well as she did and got to know her family. We love them and didn't hesitate to make an offer. We were really excited when she said yes."

"We've seen her play everywhere from outside back to deeper in midfielder to attacking mid and then forward. The thing about Alana is she's a creative, high soccer IQ young lady, that can score. And produce for others, she can set other people up to score. Wherever she plays she has an attacking mindset. She has a great physical presence on the field, she's very technical and is someone that knowing my staff like I do, I knew Nick would love her. And sure enough when she said to go see her, he was right. We do really like her and she's someone that will suit our system and suit the way we want to possess and pass the ball. Â
STONE ON ELIAS: Â
"You can't play the box 4-4-2 style that we do without dynamic outside backs, and it's hard to play with just two. If you play right back for us you also play right back, right mid and right wing. Same thing on the left side. So with [Macy] Blackburn, Kylie [Bahr] and Elise [Anderson] that was a great three-player rotation. With Elise graduating, and we need to restock at that position because we need more than two and if you have four even better because the young ones can learn from Kylie and Macy when she comes back. And really come up through the ranks. Jaime just fits us. She's one of the fastest kids we've ever recruited, and her a Logan can absolutely fly. So that's an upgrade She understands because she was a forward in her previous soccer career she understands how to get forward and go by people. She scored a lot of goals at our camp even at outside back. So, we're very excited to have to have Jami with us. Tremendous family, extremely strong mom figure in her life, which we appreciate. Â
STONE ON DYUSS:
"The great thing about Peyton is she was one of the kids that we saw early on when she was younger before she grew into the role where she is now as this young, tidy and technical player that looked like her skills were going to continue to develop and then we committed her. We thought we had a feeling of where she was going to continue to develop towards as she gets to college. But she got to that level two years in advance, you should see her now. She's fast, great on the service and scores goals from right and left back. She's very technical and ahead of schedule. Maybe not the schedule she had for herself, maybe she knew all long this is where she was going to be. But for the player we thought we were getting, she's ahead of that place, so the sky is the limit. She suits our system, loves to run, tremendous personality and is another great student. There are plenty of Presidential Scholars in this class once again which is amazing. Peyton and Jaime are going to tear it up for us in the future."

Â
STONE ON JONES:
"Kendall is one of those players, and every college coach has this story, but we weren't that familiar with them and then they come to your camp. You have all of your recruits and the girls you want to recruit there, and then out of the corner of your eye you continue to notice this one young lady tearing it up. Her athleticism is undeniable. She's tough, feisty and loves to defend. She's going to grow into her game technically and we're going to invest into her and her technical game. We're really fortunate that she hadn't committed when she came to our camp. She proved herself there. We jumped all over it and had a great conversation. Now she's a Red Raider today."

STONE ON SCHILT:Â
"Like Peyton she's from the Sting club and was coached by Kenny Medina and Adam Flynn. They know how to develop players. And they are constantly putting kids into the college game. We have a ton of sting kids now, and we're happy to have these two. In Sabrina's case she's ferociously tough and incredibly committed to training and her growth development. She has very lofty goals and has seen us have four of five keepers in a row be Goalkeeper of Year and go into the pros. Maddie [White] will be next, and I think that attracted to our program. She knew what she was going to get in Gibbs, and she was excited about that. Now she gets to be under the tutelage of one of the best goalkeeper coaches in the country in Blair Quinn. We were able to follow one great goalkeeper coach to another. Blair has a lot of experience in the pros and getting kids there. Sabrina wanted the opportunity with Blair and it will be up to her to see what she does with it. We're certainly excited to have someone as feisty and 'Red Raider Tough' coming here to play in goal for us."
