Skogen, Aberg finish top-10 at Thunderbird

The duo shot 66 and 67 respectively Saturday
PHOENIX – Powered by a pair of top-10 finishes from All-Americans Baard Skogen and Ludvig Aberg, No. 3 Texas Tech men's golf used a final round 280 (-4) to finish eighth at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate hosted by No. 5 Arizona State at Papingo Golf Club Saturday.
Playing as an individual, Skogen recorded his strongest week of the season, sandwiching a first round 68 and a final round 66 to finish at -7 for the week. Skogen shot 72 during Friday's second round and finished six shots behind Preston Summerhays who fired a combined score of -13 to win by four shots.
Tech's other top-10 finisher was Aberg, who fired back-to-back rounds of 69 (-2) and 67 (-4) after opening with an even-par 71. Aberg finished tied for seventh and now has finished inside the top-10 at all seven stroke play events Tech has played this season.
As a team, the Red Raiders closed with their strongest day, using the four-under team round to end the week at even par.
Three Red Raiders finished inside the top-20, as junior Tyran Snyders fired a one-under round of 70 to finish tied for 20th at -2.
The fifth-ranked Sundevils of ASU (-28) used a late birdie to finish one-shot ahead of No. 19 Arizona (-27). Second-ranked North Carolina fired a third round low 278 (-6) to end the week at -20 overall (solo third).
No. 21 Oklahoma State (-17), SMU (-6), Texas (-4) and Oregon State (-4) finished fourth through six.
As previously mentioned, Tech finished eighth, while Notre Dame and No. 27 Baylor finished tied for ninth at +6. Utah finished +11 to end up 11th, while New Mexico ended up at +12 to finish 12th.
