Aberg wins Fred Haskins Award

The senior is the first Texas Tech golfer to earn the award
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Fred Haskins Award has a new winner.
Just under 24 hours from being named the inaugural PGA TOUR U winner, senior Ludvig Aberg has been named the 2023 recipient of the Fred Haskins Award, presented by the Haskins Foundation and STIEFL.
In what turned out to be the largest voting turnout in the 53 year history of the award, Aberg also received the most votes by an award champion, joining the illustrious club that includes the likes of Tiger Woods, Phill Mickelson, Justin Thomas and Bill Haas.
Turning in the most memorable season in Texas Tech men's golf history, Aberg won four times in 2022-23, with back-to-back victories at the Big 12 Championships and the Norman Regional. Aberg finished inside the top-10 at every event leading up to the NCAA Championships.
The native of Eslov, Sweden, becomes the first Swedish born player to take home the Haskins Award, and is the first recipient from Texas Tech in the awards nearly 55 year history (1971).
After finishing play at NCAAs yesterday, Aberg has earned his full PGA TOUR card for the remainder of the 2023 season as well as the entire 2024 calendar year. As a full TOUR member, Aberg is also eligible to qualify for all events including the full FEDEX CUP Playoff schedule and the 2023 Ryder Cup hosted by Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy later this fall.
With the Haskins award and Ben Hogan Award secured, Aberg can become the sixth player in the history of college golf to win all three major Player of the Year Awards later this afternoon when the 2023 Jack Nicklaus award is announced by 'The Golden Bear' at his annual press conference before the practice round of his PGA TOUR event at Memorial in Ohio.
Aberg is slated to make his PGA TOUR debut in approximately 10 days, at next week's RBC Canadian Open hosted by St. George's Golf and Country Club.
