LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech's Tahj Brooks and Gino Garcia were honored by the Big 12 on Monday in the 2024 season's final Big 12 Player of the Week awards. Brooks was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week while Garcia was named the Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Brooks and Garcia played key roles in guiding Texas Tech to a 52-15 win on Senior Day last Saturday versus West Virginia. The duo accounted for 31 points of the 52 scored by the Red Raiders in the victory behind Brooks' matching his career-high of three rushing touchdowns while Garcia went 3-of-3 on field goals and 4-of-4 on extra points.
Along with his three rushing touchdowns, Brooks rushed for a career-high 188 yards in the final home game for Texas Tech's all-time leading rusher, in addition, he also set a single-game career-high with 223 all-purpose yards in the contest.Â
Brooks finished the regular season running for at least 100 yards in all 11 regular-season games he played, breaking the single-season school record of 10 he shared with Byron Hanspard and Bam Morris in the season finale versus West Virginia. Brooks pushed his career total to 4,557 yards in his first home game since breaking Hanspard's 1996 school record of 4,219 yards two weeks ago at Jones AT&T Stadium.
 Â
Two of Brooks' TDs came on 2-yard runs from direct snaps, and the other was a 37-yarder when he stumbled on a cut but stayed on his feet and bounced off defensive back Ty French. Brooks also set up one of his short TDs with a 30-yard catch. He finished with two receptions and 35 receiving yards.
Garcia pushed Texas Tech to its initial lead, 3-0, that it never relinquished, connecting on a 32-yard field goal on the Red Raiders' opening drive. Garcia made a 23-yard attempt later in the first quarter to put Texas Tech on top 6-0 before the Red Raiders went on to score touchdowns on their next five scoring drives. Garcia finished his day 3-of-3 with a 22-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to put the Red Raiders ahead 45-9.Â
Garcia's three field goals pushed him to 18-of-19 this season; he remains perfect on PATs as he improved to 37-of-37. Garcia's 18 made field goals now rank as the fourth-most field goals made in a single season by a Red Raider while he also remains in line to have the 18th perfect season on points after attempts.
In addition to Texas Tech's Brooks (co-offensive) and Garcia (co-special teams), the Big 12's final weekly accolades were won by the Baylor duo of Sawyer Robertson (co-offensive) and Bryson Washington (newcomer), Arizona State's Cam Skattebo (co-offensive), Colorado's Travis Hunter (co-offensive), BYU's Talan Alfrey (co-special teams), TCU's Ethan Craw (co-special teams) and Utah's Zemaiah Vaughn (defensive).
