Texas Tech will make its 42nd all-time bowl appearance Dec. 27 against Arkansas
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech formally accepted its 42nd bowl appearance in school history Sunday as the Red Raiders will face Arkansas on Dec. 27 in the 66th AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee. Kickoff from historic Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium is slated for 6 p.m. with television coverage provided on ESPN.
"Texas Tech is proud to accept its 42nd bowl appearance in school history and return to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl," Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "We look forward to bringing Red Raider Nation back to the great city of Memphis to showcase our football program in one of college football's most-storied bowl games."
The Red Raiders will head back to Memphis where Texas Tech delivered one of its most-memorable bowl victories in 2021, a 34-7 rout of Mississippi State in its first-ever trip to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. The victory kicked off Texas Tech's current three-game winning streak in bowl games, which is currently tied for the longest in school history.
The matchup in Memphis will be a reunion of two former Southwest Conference rivals as it will be the 38th all-time meeting between Texas Tech and Arkansas and the first ever in a bowl game. The two schools last met during the 2014-15 seasons with Arkansas topping the Red Raiders in Lubbock and the Red Raiders responding a year later with a 35-24 victory in Fayetteville.
"We are looking forward to bringing the Red Raiders to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl," head coach Joey McGuire said. "This is a tremendous opportunity for our program to possibly reach nine wins and end our season on a strong note against an Arkansas program we respect. We hope to see Red Raider Nation take over the city of Memphis and paint Beale Street and the Liberty Bowl in scarlet and black."
The AutoZone Liberty Bowl enters its 66th year as college football's seven-oldest bowl game, pitting the Big 12 against the Southeastern Conference annually. The Big 12 became a bowl partner of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in 2014.
Red Raider fans are encouraged to purchase AutoZone Liberty Bowl tickets through the Texas Tech Ticket Office, so the university receives credit towards its bowl allotment. Below is additional ticket information for Red Raider fans and students looking to make the trip to Memphis.
