McClung looks to defend NBA Slam Dunk title

LUBBOCK, Texas – Former Texas Tech star and returning NBA Slam Dunk champ Mac McClung will compete in the 2024 AT&T Slam Dunk which begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. He has also been selected to participate in the 2024 Panini Rising Stars, which will be played tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and televised on TNT as part of NBA All-Star 2024 weekend.
McClung is going up against Jaylen Brown, Jaime Jaquez, Jr., and Jacob Toppin in a showcase that will be televised on TNT. Currently playing for the Osceola Magic in the NBA G League, McClung is averaging 23.7 points and 7.2 assists per game. He stole the headlines in last year's Slam Dunk contest when he defeated New Orleans' Trey Murphy III in the finals of the dunk contest.
A guard from Gate City, Virginia, McClung played for the Red Raiders for one season (2020-21) before turning professional. At Texas Tech, McClung led the Red Raiders in scoring at 15.5 points per game for the season and was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year along with securing USBWA and NABC All-District, All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team Honors. A starter in all 29 games that season, McClung scored in double figures in 21 games with a season-high 30 points at West Virginia. He helped Tech to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after scoring 16 points in the opening round against Utah State.
