Bazzell, Kash named to 2024 Golden Spikes Watch List

The list names 55 of the top amateur baseball players in the country
CARY, N.C. – With the start of the 2024 college baseball season just seven days away, USA Baseball announced the Golden Spikes Award Watch List, Friday.

The list of 55 players features players across high school, junior college and college baseball regardless of classification.

On the initial list of players were a pair of Red Raiders as catcher/infielder Kevin Bazzell and first baseman Gavin Kash were selected.

The honor for Bazzell closes a big week for the third-year sophomore who was also named to the NCBWA All-America First Team earlier in the week. The honor is the fourth recognition of the spring for Bazzell who was also tabbed a Third Team Preseason All-American by D1Baseball and was named the No. 5 catcher in all of college baseball.

Bazzell shined during his first campaign in Lubbock, hitting .348 with a team leading 87 hits and 24 doubles. Bazzell also hit 10 home runs and drove in 62 runs, finishing with an ops of 1.024.

The honor for Kash is his fourth of the spring, as the slugger was tabbed a Second Team All-American by both Perfect Game and D1Baseball, before taking home NCWBA Third Team All-America honors.

Kash also made a big impact in his first season with the Scarlett and Black in 2023, as the first baseman hit .327 with a Big 12 leading 26 home runs and 84 RBI. Kash recorded an OPS of 1.089 in 2023 and finished inside the top-10 in program history in: home runs, RBIs and total bases.

No. 21 Texas Tech opens the 2024 season on Friday (Feb. 16) against No. 9 Tennessee. First pitch from Globe Life Field is set for 7 p.m.
