Tyler Owens recorded the second-longest broad jump in the history of the NFL Combine Friday afternoon
LUBBOCK, Texas – Tyler Owens and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson continued Texas Tech's strong showing this week at the NFL Scouting Combine as Owens recorded the second-longest broad jump in the event's history Friday, while Taylor-Demerson clocked the fasted 40-time among safeties.
Owens leaped an impressive 12-2, only an inch short of the combine record set by former Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins defensive back Byron Jones in 2015. In fact, it was only the second broad jump of 12-0 or better in the history of the combine as Owens finished 10 inches better than any other defensive player in this year's class.
Owens, known for his athleticism throughout his two seasons as a Red Raider, also led all safeties with a 41-0 inch vertical, which ranked fourth overall so far at the combine.
Owens' day was cut short, however, as he came up lame in his first attempt in the 40-yard dash. He could potentially make up his 40-time and on-field position drills later in March when the Big 12 hosts the first conference-wide Pro Day at The Star in Frisco on March 27-30.An out of this world jump ??

Taylor-Demerson, meanwhile, built on his performance at the East-West Shrine Bowl with the fastest 40-time among safeties, clocking in at 4.42 on his first attempt and then 4.41 soon after. He also measured 38-0 in the vertical jump and 10-3 in the broad jump.

Their strong performances followed a similar outing a day prior from Myles Cole, who recorded a 35-0 in the vertical, an impressive 10-0 in the broad jump and then a 4.67 in the 40-yard dash. Cole was measured with an 86 1/4 inch wingspan and arms at nearly 37 inches, easily the largest among NFL Combine participants thus far.
Texas Tech's participation in the NFL Combine concludes Sunday when punter Austin McNamara participates in on-field drills. Television coverage of the NFL Combine can be found each day on NFL Network.
