The Red Raiders rest up now before Big 12s next week in Waco
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas Tech track and field program boasts two teams in the top-11 one week out before the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor Championships in the week six USTFCCCA rankings released Tuesday afternoon.
The men slipped one spot to No. 6, while the women fell two spots to No. 11.
Tech will have this week off before traveling next Tuesday to Waco for the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor Championships. The men will be looking for their fourth-straight conference title and second-straight outdoors ('23 indoor, '23 outdoor, '24 indoor). Meanwhile, the women's side is still on the hunt for the program's first title.
Following the conference championships, the Red Raiders will have another week off before traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA West regionals. That takes place May 22-25.
Last week, Tech hosted its final regular season meet at home, the Corky/Crofoot Shootout. The meet saw several tune-ups before next week, including a 38.72 time in the men's 4x100 team consisting of Josh Bour, Shawn Brown, Jack Marshall and Antoine Andrews.
On the throws side, Jacob Mechler secured an eight-foot PB mark throwing 58.60m (192-3), while Destiny Smith (12.92) and Naomi Krebs both dipped under 13 seconds in the 100m hurdles – 3.1 wind reading.
