Tech picks up win over No. 21 Baylor in series opener
April 05, 2024 | Softball
WACO, Texas – The Red Raiders opened up their series against No. 21 Baylor with another gritty win as they took the game 4-3 on the back of another 120+ pitch outing from Maddy Wright.
Â
Maddy Wright did it at the plate too, launching her first homer as a Red Raider over the left field fence in the second inning.
Â
Tech (24-10, 4-6) used six hits, three stolen bases and eight drawn walks to scrap across runs against a Baylor team (19-14, 3-10) that answered every blow the Red Raiders landed.
Â
The Bears finished with eight hits but drew just one walk as Wright found the strike zone and hammered it all night. Both teams left nine runners on base and had some great defensive plays to stop innings from getting out of hand.
Â
Kailey Wyckoff picked up her ninth double of the season and drew two walks. Riley Love and Raegan Jennings picked up the other Red Raider hits while Abbie Orrick was the only Tech player to record multiple hits.
Â
Dee McClarity came into the game and had one of the biggest at-bats of the game as she drew a walk with the bases load to bring in Tech's third run of the game.
Â
Wyckoff drove in the eventual game-winning run as she reached on a fielder's choice that allowed the speedy Logan Halleman to race home in the top of the sixth.
Â
This is the Red Raiders first win over a ranked opponent this season and have a 1-4 record against top-25 opponents overall.
Â
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will face No. 21 Baylor again tomorrow
