Former Louisiana Lafeyette catcher joins Gerry Glasco in Lubbock after batting .293 last season
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball announced the signing of Victoria Valdez on Saturday. Valdez is now the fifth transfer to sign to coach Gerry Glasco's squad and the third from Louisiana Lafayette.
Valdez played two seasons for the Ragin' Cajuns totaling 115 games, starting 109 of them. She was the primary catcher for her squad last season and finished her 2024 campaign batting .293 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs. She also boasted a .985 fielding percentage last year on 265 chances.
She played well her freshman season, hitting .257 with three home runs and 16 RBIs but took a big step forward in terms of offensive production last year and was rewarded for it.
An Alvin, Texas native, Valdez was named to the NFCA All-Central Region Third Team and the All-Louisiana Second Team for her performance on the field and was also named to the Sun Belt Championship All-Tournament team after going 3-for-5 with four RBIs including a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning against Troy to give them a 4-2 lead and eventual win.
"Vic Valdez is one of the very best defensive catchers in the county," said Gerry Glasco. "She is a fire ball of energy on the field and plays the game with passion and intelligence. She will completely control the running game of most any opponent and brings confidence to the pitching staff. Offensively, Vic has worked very hard and hit nearly .300 with nine home runs against good competition in 2024. We believe she will continue to bloom in all areas of her game and help bring instant championship mentality to Lubbock."
