QUICK KICKS:
• Texas Tech looks to bounce back Sunday night after a tough 4-0 defeat at No. 4 Penn State on Thursday night. In that contest, the Red Raiders ultimately settled into the match in the second half after the fourth-raked Nittany Lions scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes, three in the first 25 minutes and four in the first half. In the loss, junior Peyton Parsons recorded four shots, one of which came on a PK attempt that was saved in the 70th minute.
Â
• The Red Raiders were playing shorthanded on Thursday night in State College as three of the Red Raiders preseason All-Conference selections and a pair of All-Americans missed the season opener. Defenders Kylie Bahr and Macy Blackburn both missed the contest and should return soon, while sophomore Sam Courtwright missed her first match after suffering a season-ending knee injury early in the week in training.
Â
• Prior to the start of the regular season three different Red Raiders earned Preseason All-America honors as defender Macy Blackburn, midfielder Sam Courtwright and forward Ashleigh Williams were all named to the United Soccer Coaches Players to watch list. Courtwright was also honored with Third Team All-American status by Top Drawer Soccer. In addition to the trio earning honors from the United Soccer Coaches, they were included inside the Top Drawer Top-100. Sam Courtwright checked in at No. 23, followed by Ashleigh Williams at No. 37. The third and final Red Raider inside the top-100 was Macy Blackburn who was ranked No. 58
Â
• The Red Raiders saw a program-record 25-match unbeaten streak snapped on Thursday. That streak dated back nearly two full calendar years (Sept. 25, 2022) and spanned 690 total days. The Red Raiders went 19-0-6 over that span.
• Since arriving to campus as a freshman ahead of the 2021 season, forward Ashleigh Williams has scored in 20 matches including the Big 12 regular season clincher last season at Iowa State. Williams' finding the back of the net has been a good sign for the Red Raiders, as Texas Tech is a perfect 20-0-0 when Williams scores at least one goal.
Â
• Williams scored 14 times in 2023 and in eight different matches. The Red Raiders were 8-0-0 in those eight matches. Williams' 14 single season goals were tied for fourth most in a single season.
