Nine Red Raiders named Reese's Senior Bowl prospects
August 21, 2024 | Football
MOBILE, Ala. – Nine Red Raiders were tabbed to the 2025 Reese's Senior Bowl Watchlist, the organization announced on Wednesday. The Reese's Senior Bowl is widely regarded as the preeminent college football all-star game and the first stage in the NFL Draft process.
Those identified for the Reese's Senior Bowl Watchlist on Wednesday include:
Per last November's ruling by the National Football League, all college players three years removed from high school are now eligible to enter the NFL Draft and thus, for the first time ever, the Watchlist includes 81 underclassmen that the Reese's Senior Bowl staff has identified as potential early-out draft prospects.
It takes professional evaluators to identify future professional players and this year's Senior Bowl staff will be comprised of 11 regional scouts with over 200 years of NFL experience. Its staff will rely on decades worth of relationships at the college and NFL levels to stay on top of all the risers, career backup late-bloomers, and transfers taking advantage of opportunities in their final seasons. The goal each year is to get live game exposures on as many prospects as possible so the Senior Bowl scouts will be in virtually every FBS and many small-school stadiums this college season. Last year, its staff saw all but two (out of 139) prospects in-person who ended up on the American and National rosters this past February.
It is important to note that this initial Watchlist is just a starting point. 2024 tape will be the most critical criteria to the selection process and all draft-eligible players will be re-evaluated based on their tape this fall.
Former Red Raiders who have been named to the official roster for the annual game in recent history and moved forward into the professional ranks include DE Myles Cole (2023), OLB Tyree Wilson (2022), RB SaRodorick Thompson Jr. (2022), OL Jack Anderson (2020), LB Jordyn Brooks (2019), OL Terence Steele (2019), Broderick Washington Jr. (OL), RB DeAndre Washington (2015) and OL Le'Raven Clark (2015). Seven of the nine aforementioned heard their name called during the NFL Draft, most recently Cole in the seventh round drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
