Lady Raiders travel to Furman for first tournament of the fall

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team opens its fall season at the 37th Annual Debbie Southern 2024 Furman Fall Classic on Sept. 13-15 in Greenville, S.C.
The eight Lady Raiders – Elena Daskalova, Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, Mariia Hlahola, Andreea Lila, Hailey Murphy, Arina Oreshchenkova, Avelina Sayfetdinova and Jermine Sherif– travel to Greenville this weekend to compete in the first tournament of the fall season. The Lady Raiders are coming off a 2024 spring season that resulted in 20 wins, with five players returning to the roster from last year.
Due to an inclement weather forecast emerging this weekend, the tournament will start indoors at both Clemson and Furman. Play will begin Friday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. at Furman and 9:30 a.m. at Clemson.
Sayfetdinova will make her senior season debut this Friday. Sayfetdinova finished her junior season with 17 wins in singles and 30 wins in doubles along with becoming the first ITA Doubles All-American in program history with former Lady Raider teammate, Metka Komac. Both Komac and Sayfetdinova finished last season as Big 12 Position Champions at No. 1 Doubles, Unanimous All-Big 12 First Team Doubles and quarterfinalists at the NCAA Doubles Championships. Sayfetdinova enters this weekend at No. 99 in ITA singles rankings and No. 42 in the doubles rankings with teammate, Murphy.
Texas Tech freshman and newcomer, Daskalova will make her collegiate debut this Friday. Daskalova is a five-star recruit from Olathe, Kan., who finished last year with 20 singles victories and 27 doubles victories, nine of them recorded against other five-star recruits. Daskalova was the No. 1-ranked recruit in Kansas and a top-50 recruit in the 2024 class.
Murphy will make her debut as a Lady Raider this Friday. Murphy spent her collegiate career at the University of Montana (2022-24) where she recorded 22 wins in singles and 11 wins in doubles last season. Murphy was named the unanimous Big Sky MVP in the spring season, unanimous All-Big Sky Singles First Team and recorded eight wins and zero losses in singles Big Sky matches for an undefeated singles record for the Grizzlies.
At the Debbie Southern Furman Classic, the Lady Raiders will face some of the best collegiate talent in the nation. The schools participating this weekend include Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Clemson, Furman, Georgia and many more. Over 65 players will be participating this weekend with 29 individuals being ranked in singles and 16 pairs ranked in doubles.
