Texas Tech will look for its first 8-1 or better start to a season since 2008 Saturday at Kansas State
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech moved up again in the national rankings Sunday as the Red Raiders are now No. 13 in both the Associated Press and the USA Today Coaches polls.
Texas Tech jumped up two spots in the latest USA Today poll of head coaches from across the country and only one position in the AP rankings following its 42-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon. The victory improved Texas Tech to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in Big 12 play heading into an important road trip Saturday at Kansas State.
Texas Tech is the only team in college football to have at least seven wins by at least 20 points this season as the Red Raiders boast the second-highest margin of victory in the country currently. The Red Raiders are outscoring opponents, 349-99, overall as their plus-31.3 margin trails only Indiana (34.5) and ranks just ahead of top-ranked Ohio State (30.6).
The Red Raiders have defeated two teams already in this week's rankings in No. 22 Houston and No. 24 Utah with both victories coming on the road. Texas Tech downed the Utes, 34-10, to open Big 12 play in front of a sold-out crowd in Salt Lake City and followed two weeks later with a similar 35-11 victory at Houston.
Texas Tech will need another road win Saturday to improve to at least 8-1 on the season for the first time since 2008. The Red Raiders also scored a road win at Kansas State during that memorable season, which marks the last time Texas Tech has knocked off the Wildcats in the Little Apple.
Kickoff between Texas Tech and Kansas State is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday with coverage provided nationally on FOX and the Texas Tech Sports Network.
