McClung to shine during NBA All-Star Weekend
February 10, 2025 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK – Mac McClung will look to three-peat at the AT&T Slam Dunk along with competing in the Castrol Rising Stars games during the NBA All-Star 2025 weekend being held in San Francisco.
McClung has won the AT&T Slam Dunk the past two years and will be competing against Matas Buzelis, Stephon Castle and Andre Jackson at the event which starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. The AT&T Slam Dunk takes place at Chase Center as part of State Farm All-Star Saturday Night and will be televised on TNT, truTV and Max.
He is currently playing for the Osceola Magic in the G-League where he is averaging 23.9 points and 6.2 assists per game. Along with the Slam Dunk, McClung is on the G-League Rising Star team along with JD Davison, Dink Pate, Reed Sheppard, Bryce McGowens, Pat Spencer and Leonard Miller. Jeremy Lin is the honorary coach of the team.
McClung burst onto the NBA scene during All-Star Weekend in 2023 where he was not only the first G League player to participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, but he also won the event after scoring two perfect dunks in the final round to outlast Trey Murphy III. McClung successfully defended his Slam Dunk trophy in 2024 by defeating Jaylen Brown. After signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the Orlando Magic in early September, McClung did well enough during training camp and preseason to earn a two-way deal. His lone appearance for Orlando came Oct. 26 against the Grizzlies. Otherwise, he's spent most of the campaign in the G League.
A guard from Gate City, Virginia, McClung played for the Red Raiders for one season (2020-21) before turning professional. At Texas Tech, McClung led the Red Raiders in scoring at 15.5 points per game for the season and was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year along with securing USBWA and NABC All-District, All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team Honors. A starter in all 29 games that season, McClung scored in double figures in 21 games with a season-high 30 points at West Virginia. He helped Tech to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after scoring 16 points in the opening round against Utah State.
For the first time ever, NBA ID members will play a direct role in crowning the next AT&T Slam Dunk champion at NBA All-Star. After each dunk, NBA ID members can submit their scores by using the NBA App or visiting nba.com/id. The average of these scores will count as one of 5 official scores, alongside those from this year's panel of judges, featuring NBA legends Baron Davis, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady and Jason Richardson. The collective NBA ID member score will then be presented by basketball content creator Jesser, who will serve as this year's inaugural NBA ID Member Rep. In the event of a tie, Jesser will provide a tie-breaking pick on behalf of the NBA ID community.
