SAN DIEGO – Texas Tech alum Ludvig Åberg earned his second PGA Tour win on Sunday, claiming victory at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines Golf Club. The former PGA Tour University No. 1 and Red Raider (2019-23), birdied four of his last six holes on the back nine of Torrey Pines' South Course, capped by a dramatic 6-foot, 9-inch birdie putt on hole No. 18 to edge out Maverick McNealy by one stroke for the win.
Åberg finished atop the Genesis Invitational leaderboard with a 12-under-par 276, shooting a final round 6-under 66 on Sunday.
"It was so much fun coming down the last couple holes to win a tournament," Åberg said. "It really is a special feeling and I'm proud of the way I fought today."
Momentum began to gather with a crucial par putt on hole No. 12, retaining his 8-under-par standing on the leaderboard and keeping him tied for second place with Scottie Scheffler, and three shots back of McNealy. Scheffler and McNealy both had two holes left in the tournament at the time while Åberg had six in front of him.
Åberg birdied the next three holes in a row. It started with a tap-in birdie after a 50-foot eagle putt attempt on hole No. 13 (Par 5, 592 yards). Next, No. 14, was finished by a putt from less than six feet after a masterful approach shot from the middle of the fairway (Par 4, 492 yards). The hot streak continued on hole No. 15 by sinking a 25-foot uphill putt (Par 4, 477 yards).
"I felt like when I made the putt on 15 that I was really in the hunt," Åberg added. "Once I saw [11-under] was posted, I just tried to get to 12 as fast as I could."
Åberg registered a par on the Par 3 16th hole and narrowly missed a go-ahead birdie on No. 17 before clinching it on the 72nd hole.
Åberg now sits in first on the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings with 700 points. His earnings for winning the Tour's third Signature Event also sent him soaring to the top of the Tour money list with Sunday's $4 million paycheck, after beginning the week in 30th place.
In addition to his second win, it marks Åberg's 10th career Top 5 finish, and 24th career Top 25 finish on the PGA Tour. His first career win was the RSM Classic, in November 2023, shortly after winning the Big 12 Championship individual title in his final season with the Red Raiders in May 2023.
