Red Raiders fall to Idaho State before run ruling Princeton
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 13 Texas Tech softball (16-5) fell to Idaho State (11-3) 3-2 before run ruling Princeton (2-4) 12-0 on Friday to open up the Texas A&M Invitational.
In game one, Tech fell behind 1-0 before tying the game and eventually took the lead in the sixth. Idaho State, however, answered quickly to tie the game at 2-2.
The Red Raiders had a chance to go up in the top of the seventh but were out on a close play at the plate. Idaho State had all the momentum heading into the final half of the inning and walked off Tech with a solo homer. Tech out hit Idaho State 9-3, but left five runners on base.
With not much time in between games, Tech had to regroup quickly before playing Princeton. They did so with no trouble as Chloe Riassetto started the game with a three-up-three-down inning which then set up the offense to plate three runs highlighted by a two-RBI single from the bat of Bailey Lindemuth.
Tech then used four runs in the third inning – highlighted by Katie Lott's first RBI of the season with a double down the left field line – and five runs in the fourth inning to make it a 12-0 game and end it early.
Alexa Langeliers and Victoria Valdez both left the yard in the fourth inning and Anya German doubled home two runs in the same inning to solidify the win.
Five Red Raiders had multiple hits including Valdez, Langeliers, German, Hailey Toney and Raegan Jennings.
Riassetto improved to 2-0 on the year after throwing 5.0 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five batters.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will face a pair of Texas schools tomorrow as they start with Texas State at 4:30 p.m. followed by a nightcap against No. 5/6 Texas A&M at 7 p.m.
