Williams selected to Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech's Darrion Williams has been selected by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association to a list of 50 standout players for its 2024-25 Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List. Members of the association's board of directors chose the players that will be considered as contenders for the National Player of the Year. All Division I players remain eligible for the award.
Williams is averaging 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the Red Raiders who are currently on a six-game winning streak and leaped up to No. 13 in the nation. A junior from Sacramento, California, he is coming off a game at No. 5 Houston where he finished with 13 points, including hitting a 3-pointer in the final 30 seconds to force overtime. He has scored in double-figures in 16 games this season, including a season-high 23 against Lamar to close out non-conference play for his fourth game scoring 20-plus. Williams, who earned All-Big 12 Third Team honors last season, currently ranks ninth in the Big 12 in assists and 15th in scoring.
The Oscar Robertson Trophy winner is to be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four in San Antonio, from April 5-7. The formal presentation of the trophy will follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. A final watch list will be released in early March and those chosen will be included on the USBWA's annual awards ballot.

Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the nation's oldest award and the only one named after a former player.
