Texas Tech hosts RV Utah on Wednesday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are back in Lubbock with a game against the Utah Utes on Wednesday, February 5 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Texas Tech (14-10, 3-8 Big 12) leads the all-time series against Utah, 2-1, with the two teams last playing on January 8, 1993 as Utah won it by a 72-55 score.
Junior Jasmine Shavers has come off the bench in five games this season - Gonzaga (11/29), Missouri State (11/30), TCU (1/11), Kansas (1/29) and Colorado (2/2). In those five games, she led the Lady Raiders in points three times and is averaging 15.4 points per game, which is more than her season average. She posted a career-high 32 points off the bench versus Missouri State, while also adding 14 points at Kansas and 16 at Colorado. In these five games, she led the team with 14 steals, seven 3-pointers, 26 field goals and 18 made free throws.
Juniors Bailey Maupin and Shavers are the two leading scorers for the Lady Raiders in the second-consecutive season so far. Shavers leads the team with 14.5 points per game followed by Maupin's 13.5 points per game. In addition, Shavers has scored a team-best 349 points this year and Maupin is just behind with 323 points. The juniors account for almost 50 percent of the team's total scoring (43.4 percent) and account for 55.1 percent of the team's free throws with 172 made (Maupin with 85, Shavers with 87).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Utah Utes are 16-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play, receiving votes in both the AP Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll. They are currently on a three-game win streak after defeating Arizona, BYU and Kansas. Some recent losses came against TCU and Baylor. Utah is averaging 77.0 points per game and only allowing 61.9 points per game to opponents. Shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 75.3 percent from the free throw line, the Utes total 18.5 assists per game and 36.8 rebounds per game. Utah is led in scoring by three players – Gianna Kneepkens (19.2), Maye Toure (13.1) and Kennady McQueen (10.3). On the rebounding side, Toure averages a team-leading 6.2 per game, followed by Reese Ross with 5.5 and Kneepkens with 5.0.
