Canady strikes out 14 and launches solo homer
CLEARWATER, Florida – No. 10 Texas Tech (5-1) ended its time in the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 3-0 win over Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon. NiJaree Canady picked up her third win in the circle, striking out 14 batters while also hitting her second home run of the season.
Mihyia Davis recorded two hits, including a single to open up the game. Davis then stole second and third came home to score on an Alana Johnson RBI.
Lauren Allred also singled and got moved up third on Johnson's at-bat and a wild pitch. Canady was able to bring her home with a sacrifice fly to give Tech an early 2-0 lead.
Canady and the defense allowed just two hits the whole game as Samantha Lincoln recorded her first collegiate save coming in and retiring three of the four batters she faced in the seventh inning as Tech improved to 5-1.
Canady finished the weekend with a 3-1 record and 40 strikeouts over 20.1 innings pitched while also hitting two home runs, a double and recording six RBI.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will travel to Austin to take on Texas, Maryland and UMass.
