Toppin named All-America by USBWA, NABC

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech sophomore JT Toppin dominated throughout the season and has now swept through all-America honors after being named to the NABC and USBWA All-America teams on Wednesday leading into the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Toppin earned USBWA All-America Second Team and NABC All-America Second Team following also being named previously to the Associated Press All-America Second Team and The Sporting News All-America Second Team.
Averaging 18.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and with 15 double-doubles for Texas Tech this season, Toppin was also named to the AP All-America Second Team on Tuesday ahead of the NCAA Tournament where the Red Raiders open against UNC Wilmington at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday in Wichita, Kansas. Toppin is the fourth Red Raider to earn NABC and USBWA All-America honors, following Andre Emmett (2004), Keenan Evans (2018) and Jarrett Culver (2019) who also received the pair of all-America honors. The four are the only players in program history to earn AP, Sporting News, USBWA and NABC all-America in the same season.
Toppin, who is in his first season at Tech after transferring from New Mexico, has been selected for a slew of postseason honors, previously being named Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team, All-Big 12 Newcomer Team and The Sporting News All-America Second Team. He also earned Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team and NABC All-District. A sophomore from Dallas, Toppin leads the Red Raiders with his 18.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 15 double-doubles this season. He scored a season-high 41 points in the double-overtime win over Arizona State and had a season-high 18 rebounds against Saint Joseph's. He has scored 20 or more points in 14 games this season, including three games with 30 or more.
Toppin comes into the NCAA Tournament First Round with 970 points, 592 rebounds and 27 double-doubles through 65 games in his career.
