
Tech sweeps the Buffs in Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. – After not losing a single set in the match, the No. 13 Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned a 4-0 sweep of the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday evening at the Meadows Club.
Texas Tech (15-2, 8-1 Big 12) won its 15th doubles point of the season after getting two doubles wins over Colorado (7-10, 1-8 Big 12). First, the No. 4-ranked duo of Avelina Sayfetdinova and Mariia Hlahola earned a decisive 6-0 win against No. 45-ranked pair of Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson at court one. Clinching the doubles point was Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy at court two against Lera Alexin and Mila Stanojevic. Tech went up 4-1 and never looked back, earning a 6-3 victory to clinch the point and lead.
Texas Tech continued its momentum in singles, getting a quick win at the top court by Sayfetdinova over Stanojevic. The Lady Raiders and Buffalo were tied 2-2 in set one, before Sayfetdinova won two consecutive games. Stanojevic made it interesting after making it 5-4. But Sayfetdinova held serve to win the first set, 6-4. Sayfetdinova would not drop a game in the following set, winning with her second bagel of the night, 6-0, for the second point.
At court three, Hlahola picked up a victory against Bubalo in straight sets. She took the first set by a 6-3 score, then went down 0-2 in the next one. Winning back-to-back games to even it at 2-all and then going up 3-2, the Buffalo retook the lead by a 4-3 score. Hlahola responded with two breaks, but Bubalo also broke right back to make it 5-5. However, the Lady Raiders would hold serve then break serve once again to win it, 7-5.
The match was clinched at court two when Dmitrichenko defeated Betina Tokac in a battle. In the first set, Dmitrichenko went down 0-3 before winning her first game. The Buff took a 4-2 and 5-3 lead before Dmitrichenko rattled off three of the next four games to force a tiebreaker. In the breaker, Dmitrichenko was down 2-4 before coming back to win it with five straight points, 7-6 (4). The Lady Raider once again was down in the next set, 2-3, but won back-to-back games for a 4-3 lead. She would go on to clinch the win with a 6-4 set two victory.
When the match was called, Tech was leading in the first sets on two of three courts. At court four, Andreea Lila made a comeback against Alexin after being down 2-5 to force a tiebreaker, winning it 7-6 (2). Over at court six, Jermine Sherif took a 5-1 lead over Willow Gretsch in set one before it was called.
Up next, Texas Tech remains on the road to take on West Virginia in Morgantown, W.Va., on Friday, April 4 at 10 a.m.
