LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Women's Tennis team has added Almaty, Kazakhstan native, Polina Sleptsova, to next year's roster as announced by head coach Adam Herendeen on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to welcome Polina to Texas Tech!" Herendeen said. "We believe that she is going to come in and have a big impact on our program from her first day on campus. She has some big goals and we are excited to help her reach them."
Ranked as high as No. 168 in the ITF junior singles rankings as well as No. 827 in the ITF women's rankings, Sleptsova has won three ITF singles and doubles titles during her junior career. In August 2023, Sleptsova was a doubles semifinalist at the Ust-Kamenogorsk 15k while also making the doubles quarterfinals of the same tournament a year later.
In the 2023 Ust-Kamenogorsk 15k, Sleptsova advanced out of the qualifying draw with wins over Hanna Vinahradava (ITF 266) and Ingkar Dyussebay (ITF 566). She would go on to do the same thing the following year at the same competition, picking up wins against Larisa Bekmetova (ITF 205) and Diana Yakovleva (ITF 128). Most recently in June, the Kazakhstan native earned a main draw bid at the Antalya 15k after beating three players in qualifying – Ke Ren (ITF 206), Leticia Matuszewski and Ekaterina Kuznetsova (ITF 26).
Sleptsova swept the doubles and singles titles at both the J100 Shymkent and J100 Issyk-kul tournaments, while also claiming a singles title at J60 Antalya as well as a doubles title at the J100 Tashkent tournament. In December 2023, Sleptsova was the only international player to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Orange Bowl 16s Championships in Plantation, Fla. In addition, Sleptsova competed in the Junior Billie Jean King Cup finals.
