April 30, 2025 | Football
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech football team announced the addition of wide receiver Roy Alexander to its roster on Wednesday. Alexander is set to transfer to Texas Tech from Incarnate Word and will utilize his final year of eligibility with the Red Raiders in 2025.
Alexander, who spent the first three seasons (2021-23) of his career at UAlbany, enjoyed a breakout season in 2024 with Incarnate Word, a season he ranked second nationally in receptions, fifth nationally in receiving touchdowns, and was 10th in the nation in receiving yards at the FCS level. Over this career, he's posted 202 catches for 2,422 receiving yards and 20 receiving touchdowns.
In 14 games at Incarnate Word, Alexander had 100 catches for 1,108 receiving yards and made 13 touchdown grabs, and had two games with three touchdown receptions, all factors that helped him earn the honor of being named a Stats Perform All-American. He also added 62 rushing yards and two more rushing scores. Prior to UIW's run to the FCS quarterfinal round, Alexander was named to the All-SLC Second Team. The Cardinals concluded their regular season as the first UIW football team to go undefeated in conference play (7-0).
He was not only a terrific on-the-field performer but an academic standout as he was named the 2024 Southland Conference Football Student-Athlete of the Year, in addition to being named to the SLC All-Academic Team. Alexander earned a bachelor's degree in sociology at UAlbany, May 2024, before beginning his graduate degree at Incarnate Word. At UIW, he finished the fall season with a 4.00 grade point average while working toward his master's in Science – Sports Management.
Alexander is from Fort Myers, Fla., and attended Riverdale High School before concluding his prep career at Bridgton Academy, a prep school in Maine. He initially joined UAlbany as a mid-year enrollee before the spring semester of 2021 as a cornerback before shifting to wide receiver while playing for the Great Danes.
