LUBBOCK, Texas – Head Coach Tony Graystone announced the hiring of Mikayla Ell as an Assistant Coach on his staff on Monday.
Ell spent the last two seasons as the Director of Volleyball Operations and served in a split role last year during Big 12 play where she helped coach the hitters and blockers.
"I'm proud to promote Mikayla from Director of Volleyball Operations to Assistant Coach," said Graystone. "She's done an excellent job as our DOVO, and I'm looking forward to working with her in this new role. Mikayla was a head coach in Missouri when I first hired her, and I know she's excited to return to coaching. There's no doubt she'll have a positive impact, and our players will love training with her."
Ell came from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she was the head coach for the 2022 season. During her time at the helm, she led the Stars to its high winning percentage and first AMC playoff win in program history. Ell has eight plus years of coaching experience in college, high school and the club level.
She was first a Student Coach at St. Olaf Collage before becoming the varsity assistant coach at her old high school – Bethlehem Academy. She coached the club volleyball team, Northern Lights, before moving to Missouri where she coached the Missouri Juniors club team. She led the Missouri Juniors squad to a bid in the 2021 USAV National Tournament, earning a bronze finish against some of the top teams in the country.
Ell also was the varsity assistant coach and junior varsity head coach at Hallsville High School, helping them to their first ever district championship.
Prior to her coaching career, Ell was a standout athlete at Bethlehem Academy High School where she led her team to a Minnesota State Volleyball Title twice. She then went on to play at Franklin and Marshall College for a season before finishing out her collegiate career at St. Olaf College where she was the captain for two seasons, helping her team to a spot in the conference championship match three years in a row.
