Lady Raiders selected to represent USA at 2025 FISU World University Games

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders have been selected to compete for the United States at the 2025 FISU World University Games happening this July in Germany.
"We are thrilled to announce that Texas Tech University Women's Basketball, led by its exceptional Coach Krista Gerlich, will represent UniUSA at the 2025 FISU World University Summer Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany," said UniUSA Federation President Dan Guerrero. "Texas Tech's tradition of excellence, both on and off the court, makes them a perfect ambassador for our nation at this prestigious international event. We look forward to watching them showcase their talent and sportsmanship on the global stage this July. This is a unique opportunity to unite athleticism, education, and international camaraderie, and we are confident that Texas Tech will make the USA proud."
Held every two years, the FISU World University Games is governed by the International University Sports Federation and has become known as the most important competition in international university sport since its debut in 1923. Texas Tech will be joined by the Baylor men's basketball team to represent the United States at the competition.
In addition to basketball, the summer edition of the FISU World University Games will include: archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, diving, fencing, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, water polo, 3x3 basketball, 3x3 wheelchair basketball, beach volleyball and rowing.
The opening ceremony takes place on July 16 and the women's basketball tournament will be from July 18 to July 25 inside the venue of Walter-Schädlich-Halle in Duisburg, Germany. The closing ceremony will be held on July 27. During this time frame, more than 8,500 athletes and officials from up to 150 countries come together to participate at the FISU World University Games for a chance to medal for their country.
In the women's basketball tournament, 16 countries will be represented in the competition including: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Czechia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Chinese Taipei and the United States. Reserved teams include Austria and Slovakia.
Teams will be divided into four groups of four, with each team playing three games during the group phase. The top two teams from each group will advance to compete for positions 1–8, while the remaining teams will vie for positions 9–16. Winners of the quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals. Semifinal winners will compete for first and second place, while semifinal runners-ups will compete for third and fourth place. Teams not advancing to the top 8 will participate in classification matches to determine their final rankings from ninth to 16th place.
