Joyner tabbed to Doak Walker Award watch list
August 05, 2025 | Football
DALLAS – Texas Tech sophomore Quinten Joyner was named a preseason candidate for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced on Tuesday. The Forum annually presents the award to the nation's most outstanding college running back.
Joyner joined the Red Raiders prior to spring practices this past offseason with three seasons of eligibility remaining by way of USC. The Texas native hails from the same high school former Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks attended – Manor High School – and hopes to make a similar impact as Brooks, who started the previous two seasons on the Doak Walker Award watch list.
Joyner was the Trojans' second-leading rusher in 2024, posting 478 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns over 12 games. Additionally, he posted 12 receptions for 89 yards and one touchdown, producing the fourth-most all-purpose yards, 567, by a Trojan during his redshirt freshman season. Joyner combined for 603 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 81 carries over his two seasons as a Trojan.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12, 2024.
