Kickoff for the Big 12 opener at Utah has been set for 11 a.m. CT Sept. 20 in Salt Lake City
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Big 12 Conference opener between No. 21 Texas Tech and No. 20 Utah has been set for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff on Sept. 20, the Big 12 Conference announced Monday. The potential matchup of top-25 teams will air nationally on FOX in its Big Noon Kickoff window.
Gus Johnson will have the call from Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City alongside analyst Joel Klatt and Jenny Taft on the sidelines. It will be Texas Tech's first trip to Salt Lake City and only its second to the state of Utah after the Red Raiders previously faced BYU in nearby Provo midway through the 2023 season.
This will be only the third all-time matchup for the Red Raiders (2-0) and Utes (2-0) as the two schools previously met to start both the 1972 and 1973 seasons inside Jones AT&T Stadium. The Red Raiders dropped the Utes, 45-2, to open an 8-4 season in 1972 before opening the following year with a 29-22 victory. The 1973 victory kicked off a memorable 11-1 campaign for the Red Raiders, which ended with a victory over Tennessee in the Gator Bowl.
The Red Raiders will first close non-conference play with one of Utah's former conference mates in Oregon State. Kickoff this Saturday is slated for 2:30 p.m. with television coverage also provided on FOX. Tickets are limited with less than 500 remaining as of Monday afternoon.
Additional kick times for Texas Tech's remaining Big 12 schedule will be announced on a 12 or six-day basis the rest of the season following selections by the conference's television partners in ESPN, FOX and TNT Sports.
