Terry, Lincoln combine for shutout against James Madison
CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 1 Texas Tech recorded another shutout win as they won 5-0 against James Madison (2-3) on Saturday night.
The Red Raiders (11-0) got great performances in the circle from lefties Samantha Lincoln – who improved to 3-0 on the season – and Kaitlyn Terry who seems to get better every game.
Lincoln went 5.0 innings and allowed just three hits while striking out two batters including a big strikeout in the fourth inning to get out of some trouble.
Terry pitched 2.0 innings and recorded five strikeouts and allowed one hit in the seven batters she faced. Terry also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base and two runs which featured an incredible slide to avoid a tag and score a run.
Mia Williams got three RBI and went 2-for-4 on the day. Mihyia Davis set the tone at the lead off spot going 2-for-4 as well and scoring two runs.
How it Happened:
Lincoln had a five-pitch first inning in what would be a pitchers duel for most of the game. JMU's Payton List had a solid start but got hit around a bit in the late innings giving up a total of three runs on five hits.
Tech scored the first run of the game off the bat of Desirae Spearman who reached via an error. Davis had led off the game with a double and Tech was able to take advantage of that.
The Red Raiders finally got some offense going in the fifth inning when Terry and Davis singled in back-to-back at bats and then did a double steal to get them on second and third with no outs.
Williams pushed home Terry on a fielder's choice and the crafty slide of Terry made the game 2-0. Spearman then got Davis across on a sac fly.
Williams got the last two runs pushed across on a single up the middle to secure the Red Raiders win. Terry dominated the fifth inning in the circle and on base paths and was a big catalyst for the win.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will face Nebraska tomorrow. The game time has changed to 3 p.m. ET due to potential weather concerns.
