Tech bounces back with two wins on Saturday

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 32-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders bounced back on Saturday, recording wins over the No. 60 Grand Canyon Lopes, 4-0, and the No. 37 Iowa Hawkeyes, 4-2, at the Tucson Racquet Club.
Texas Tech (9-3) played doubles against Grand Canyon (5-5) yesterday evening, earning the doubles point to start the match. At court two, the GCU duo of Bella Crossman and Dania Deaifi defeated Mariia Hlahola and Elena Daskalova, 6-4. The Lady Raiders came back, though, getting a win at court three next after Polina Sleptsova and Ella Brownback overtook Hams Metwally and Amália Suciu, 6-4. At court one, No. 75 Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy clinched the doubles point after they defeated Karina Hofbauer and Gala Arangio in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Lady Raiders carried this momentum to singles the following day, winning five of six first sets. Tech extended its lead when Dmitrichenko defeated Hofbauer at court two by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Murphy made the match 3-0 with a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Crossman at the top court. Clinching the match win was Havana Kadi at court six as she beat Suciu by a 6-4, 6-3 score.
In the second match of the day, this time against No. 37 Iowa (6-5), the Hawkeyes would begin with a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. Tech got a win at court three from Brownback and Sleptsova over Emma Tothova and Tereza Dejnozkova, 6-2. But the Hawkeyes recorded two wins at courts one and three to clinch the doubles point and the 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Raiders won four of six first sets in singles against the Hawkeyes. Tying the match up at 1-1 was Kadi at court six after she took down Shuqian Xu by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Sleptsova picked up her first career win at court three when she defeated Dejnozkova, 7-5, 6-3, for the lead.
Iowa, however, evened things back up with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at court two. Murphy added a ranked victory, defeating No. 67 Mack at the top court, 7-6 (4), 6-3, to give Tech back the lead at 3-2. Then, Andreea Lila clinched the victory with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 victory against Tothova at court four.
Up next, the Lady Raiders begin conference play in Lawrence, Kan., against the Kansas Jayhawks on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.
