No. 2 Red Raiders put up 24 runs in front of record crowd
February 26, 2026 | Softball
Tech improves to 17-1 on the season after a 24-0 win over ACU on Thursday night
Canady improved to 7-1 in the circle as she struck out nine batters and had a no-hitter going up until the last Wildcat batter lined a ball up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. The senior threw just 69 pitchers through 5.0 innings of work as she continues to improve early in the season.
Hailey Toney was the story of the night offensively for the Red Raiders. The sophomore shortstop went 3-for-4 with a career-high seven RBI including a two-run homer. Toney moved up to the two-hole for the first time this season and it paid off as leadoff Mihyia Davis was able to score four times, and the nine-hole hitter Kaitlyn Tery scored three times.
Tech's 24 runs tied the program record for runs in a game and they did it on 16 hits and also forced 10 walks. Desirae Spearman and Lagi Quiroga hit home runs while Mia Williams and Taylor Pannell both doubled twice. Pannell, Quiroga and Terry finished the game with three RBI each while Spearman, Davis and Jasmyn Burns each had a pair of RBI.
It was a welcomed sight for Gerry Glasco who all week has been stressing the importance of getting good pitches and seeing the ball betters.
"I challenged them to demand good pitches and be selective," Glasco said. "That was my challenge to the team pregame, 'make the pitcher throw a pitch that you want to hit and don't swing at anything that the pitcher wants you to swing at. Be a nightmare for the opposing pitcher.'"
How it Happened:
Canady looked ready to go from the beginning as she struck out two of the first three batters she faced to set up a 13 run first inning for Tech. Davis singled to lead off the game and then stole second and third in the next two pitched. With an 0-2 count, Toney took a ball opposite field for her second home run of the game to start to snowball of scoring for Tech.
Quiroga recorded an RBI and reached on an error which set up Spearman's two-run homer to make it 5-0. Another Wildcat error helped score another Red Raider run before Toney picked up her third and fourth RBI of the inning on a single to the left side with the bases loaded. Pannell doubled to add two more runs and Quiroga put the finishing touched on the inning with a two-run homer.
Canady and company put up another zero on the scoreboard and came around to score eight more runs in the second inning. Davis and Terry tripled at the beginning and end of the to highlight the offense. Tech added its final three runs in the bottom of the fourth on singles by Terry and Toney.
UP NEXT: Tech will be back in action at 5 p.m. tomorrow night against North Texas.
