Tech sweeps Colorado on senior day

LUBBOCK, Texas – It was a dominant day from start to finish as the No. 30 Texas Tech Lady Raiders swept the No. 61 Colorado Buffaloes, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (14-7, 5-4 Big 12) opened the match with a gritty doubles point against Colorado (10-9, 2-7 Big 12). Getting the first win on the day was Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola over Aya El Sayed and Yukiko Ikedo at court two. After going down 1-2 on a broken serve, the Lady Raider duo tied things at 3-3, then won the next three games for a 6-3 victory.
At court three, Colorado's Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson evened the score after beating Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova, 6-4. It would be No. 38-ranked Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy to clinch the doubles point after defeating Rixt van der Werff and Lera Alexin at court one. Both teams traded games until it was tied at 5-all. Then, the Lady Raiders claimed the next two games to win it by a 7-5 score.
Texas Tech increased its lead to 2-0 after Havana Kadi made quick work of Heidi Crncan at court five, winning her match by a 6-3, 6-0 score. Brownback picked up a singles win against Ikedo at court six after beating the Buff, 6-4, 6-3, to make it 3-0 in Tech's favor.
Clinching the match was Daskalova at court four over Nelson. Daskalova and Nelson went back-and-forth in the first set to force a tiebreaker. In the breaker, Daskalova dominated from start to finish, winning it 7-3. They tied 1-1 in the second set, until Daskalova rattled off five-straight games for the 6-1 win to clinch the 4-0 sweep.
Up next, the Lady Raiders head to Tempe, Ariz., to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m. CT.
