Tech falls to No. 28 Oklahoma State

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 28 Oklahoma State Cowgirls defeated the No. 34 Texas Tech Lady Raiders, 4-1, on Friday evening at the McLeod Tennis Center in Tech's Big 12 home opener. Â
Oklahoma State (6-4, 3-0 Big 12) opened the match with the doubles point over Texas Tech (11-4, 2-1 Big 12). The Cowgirls didn't have enough players, so they forfeited court three doubles to the pair of Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova. However, Oklahoma State won on the final two courts to claim the point.
At court one in doubles, No. 20-ranked Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp beat No. 55 Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy in a tight match, 7-5. Then, Olivia Lincer and Luca Udvardy clinched the lead with a 7-6 (4) win over Mariia Hlahola and Elena Daskalova at court two.
Texas Tech tied with Oklahoma State, 1-1, as the Cowgirls forfeited their match on court six. However, Oklahoma State increased its lead after that when Melisa Ercan overtook Daskalova at court five by a 6-3, 6-2 score. No. 22-ranked Nijkamp defeated Hlahola at court three, 7-6 (6), 6-2, to put the Cowgirls up 3-1. Clinching the match for Oklahoma State was Komar at court two over Dmitrichenko, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Â
Up next, the Lady Raiders host the Kansas State Wildcats on Sunday at noon in the McLeod Tennis Center.
