Kimaru, Mather win Texas Tech Open meet

Titus Kimaru has now won three-straight meets
LUBBOCK, Texas โ Titus Kimaru and Lily Mather each paced their respective squads with individual wins Friday morning at the LCU Cross Country Course. ย

Kimaru began the race at the very end of the field, slowing creeping up each mile. By the third mile or so, the sophomore positioned himself with the top-3 runners before eventually pulling away. He crossed the end line with an 8k time of 23:48.1, claiming a four-second win over the next runner. Racing in three-straight weekends now, Kimaru has three victories to his name and has been named the Big 12 Runner of the Week in consecutive weeks. Last season, he won the Texas Tech Open with a time of 22:51.2.

Over on the women's side, Lily Mather maintained her position in the front of the pack from the start, finishing her 6k race with a time of 21:01.7. Mather won her race by 18 seconds. It's the first 6k of the season for the women's team as they last raced two weeks ago to open the season at the Cowboy Preview in Stillwater which was a 3k race. Last season at the Texas Tech Open, Mather placed fourth with a time of 21:18.
Freshman Emily Orr placed sixth at 22:06.6 to round out the top-10. Another newcomer in Lilly Koenig finished 13th at 22:35.9, while Jenna Carter capped off the top-20 in 16th with a time of 22:43.1. Lila Crowley finished 25th with a time of 23:30.6 to complete the scoring as the Tech women scored (1-6-13-16-24) 60 points to take second place overall.
