TEAM
- Saturday was the 11th meeting all-time between the Red Raiders and the Wildcats; the two programs met for the first time since 1949 two seasons ago. Tonight's game was the second game of a two-game contract.
- The Red Raiders won their ninth consecutive home game Saturday night. Texas Tech has allowed fewer than 18 points in each victory over its nine-game home winning streak, the longest such streak by a Big 12 program since 2002. The Red Raiders' record for consecutive home wins is 12, set in games played from 2007-09.
- Texas Tech has scored at least 28 points in each of its last 54 non-conference games at home. That is the longest such streak since Division I football split to the FBS and FCS in 1978.
- Texas Tech improved to 31-3 under Joey McGuire when tying or leading the turnover margin.
THE OFFENSE
- Will Hammond (#15) became the seventh Red Raider in his third year or younger to earn the starting nod to kick off a season. It was his fourth career start and his first since Oct. 25, 2025, which was the contest versus Oklahoma State when he suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
- Hammond connected on his first 14 pass attempts on Saturday, going a perfect 9-for-9 for 85 yards in the first quarter, and connected on his next five in the second quarter before his 15th attempt was intercepted. Hammond finished 26-of-33 (79.0%) for a career-high 298 yards and one touchdown and the one INT.
- Quinten Joyner (#0), in his first game as a Red Raider after suffering a season-ending ACL injury in the preseason of 2025, found the end zone on his first career carry for the Red Raiders. It was his first touchdown since Oct. 12, 2024, as a member of the USC Trojans versus Penn State. He carried the ball 10 times, matching a career-high, for 43 yards.
- Nine different Red Raiders pass catchers hauled in a pass in the first half, while 10 finished the game with at least one catch.
- J'Koby Williams set a career high in receptions with eight. It was the most by a Red Raider running back since Tahj Brooks recorded nine catches on Nov. 23, 2024, versus West Virginia. Williams led the Red Raiders with 141 all-purpose yards, adding a team-high 71 rushing yards as well as 13 kickoff return yards.
THE DEFENSE
- Texas Tech held Abilene Christian under 200 total yards of offense, a feat the 2025 team did three times while ranking third in the nation in total defense, averaging 258.3 yards per game.
- John Curry (#6) intercepted the second pass of his career in the third quarter on Abilene Christian's first play from scrimmage to start the second half. His first career interception came on Nov. 30, 2024, versus West Virginia, which came on the final play of the game.
- Jamond Mathis (#8) recorded a career-high 2.5 sacks. His previous high was 1.5 in a single game, having done so six different times between his previous stints at Kent State and Southern Illinois.
SPECIALIST
- Stone Harrington (#48) opened his fifth-year campaign going 4-for-4 on field goals (23, 28, 33, 45). It's the third game of his career in which he's registered four or more field goals in a single game.
