Blayne Beal begins his 15th season at Texas Tech and serves as Associate Athletics Director for Communications.
In his role, Beal oversees the communications efforts for all 17 intercollegiate sports at Texas Tech while serving as the department's official spokesperson. In addition, he oversees the strategic communications and branding initiatives for Texas Tech Athletics.
In the fall, his primary role is that of communications director for Red Raider Football. During his tenure, he has helped manage Heisman Trophy campaigns for Kliff Kingsbury, Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree and successfully promoted numerous student-athletes for post-season awards. The 2013 National University Holiday Bowl, a 37-23 Red Raider win over No. 16 Arizona State, marked his 13th bowl game at Texas Tech.
Under his guidance, the athletics communications office has redefined its role in the department by becoming a self-sufficient public relations entity. The department has combined traditional media relations' roles with an emphasis on digital production that includes audio, video and social media. Following the 2013 season, the department was honored with the Football Writers Association of America Super 11 Award. The award honors the top 11 collegiate communications/public relations offices in the country.
In the fall of 2012, the launch of TexasTech.TV proved wildly successful and gave Red Raider fans a one-stop destination for digital video content. The integration of Texas Tech TV into the department's main athletics website, texastech.com, has generated a comprehensive story telling platform for Texas Tech Athletics.
Beal returned to his alma mater in 2000 after a serving as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee where he earned a master's degree in Sports Management.
He graduated from Texas Tech in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in Public Relations.
