The meet will take place at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. Junior transfer Samson Ngetich will make his debut with the Red Raiders. Ngetich, who comes to Texas Tech from Jomo Kenyatta University in Kenya, began attending Texas Tech in the spring. "The meet will give us a chance to take a look at some of the members of our team who will be contending for spots among our top runners," said head coach Greg Sholars. "Samson Ngetich will make his debut this weekend, and it will be a good opportunity for him and the rest of our team." Last year, only the men's team competed in the Kachina Classic. Sophomore David Leigh paced the Tech runners, finishing sixth overall among a pack that included junior college athletes as well as runners from area track clubs. In Division I competition, the Red Raiders finished ahead of New Mexico State, 20 points to 39. In Saturday's SMU Invitational, the women's squad claimed second place in the College/University Division I section, with sophomore Leigh Daniel finishing fourth overall in a time of 17 minutes, 41 seconds. The Texas Tech men finished sixth in Div. I team competition. The Red Raider men will have another chance to run with last weekend's top finisher on Friday, as UTEP runner Damian Kallabis will also be competing in New Mexico. The Kachina Classic was originally listed as October 26 on the 1997 schedule.
