Lindsey Scott Jr. enters his second season as Texas Tech’s assistant quarterbacks coach after a successful debut where the Red Raiders boasted one of the nation’s top offenses behind eventual NFL Draft pick Behren Morton.
The Red Raiders averaged 39.4 points per game in their debut season under offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich, pushing Texas Tech to a school record 12 wins and its first Big 12 Conference title and College Football Playoff appearance in school history. Texas Tech was among the most-dominant teams in recent college football history as its high-powered offense helped push the Red Raiders to 12 wins all by at least 20 points.
Morton was a key part in Texas Tech’s success, becoming only the second Red Raider in program history to start at least 10 games and throw for 2,500 yards with eight or fewer interceptions. He led the Big 12 with a 66.0 completion percentage en route to ending his career ranked fourth all-time in Texas Tech history for both career passing yards and career touchdown passes, among other categories. Morton was later selected in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.
Scott previously played and worked under Leftwich at both Incarnate Word and then Texas State, beginning his coaching career as an offensive analyst for the Bobcats over the 2023-24 seasons. Texas State boasted one of the nation’s top offenses those two seasons, which pushed the Bobcats to their first two bowl appearances in school history and 16 combined victories.
Scott was Leftwich’s starting quarterback during his lone season as the offensive coordinator at Incarnate Word in 2022. The two formed a strong bond with Scott throwing for 4,686 yards and 60 touchdowns to only eight interceptions, while also rushing for 712 yards and 11 additional scores on only 132 carries. He was honored following the season with the prestigious Walter Payton Award, which recognizes the Offensive Player of the Year at the FCS level.
Incarnate Word closed the 2022 season with a 12-2 record and an appearance in the FCS semifinal round, marking the furthest the Cardinals had advanced in program history. Scott was also named the Southland Conference Player of the Year and a first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Associated Press, among others, after setting the Incarnate Word single-season records for completion percentage (70.9), passing efficiency (197.4), passing yards (4,686), passing touchdowns (60), total offensive yards (5,353) and touchdowns responsible for (71).
Scott ended his collegiate career with the Cardinals after previously signing with LSU out of high school. He was tabbed the 2015 Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Louisiana out of Zachary High School outside Baton Rouge where he led the Broncos to the Class 5A state title as a senior. Scott also spent time at East Mississippi Community College (2017), Missouri (2018) and Nicholls State (2019-21) throughout his college career.
In addition to his role at Texas State, Scott also played in nine games as a rookie quarterback for the Arlington Renegades during the United Football League (UFL) spring 2024 season. He joined the Renegades as the top overall pick in the XFL Dispersal Draft after previously being selected second overall of the USFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Maulers.
Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on mathematics from Nicholls State in December 2021. He is currently pursuing a master’s of business administration through Incarnate Word with an expected graduation date this May.
