Brian Nance enters his fifth season on the Texas Tech staff where he has helped build the Red Raiders into one of the top recruiting operations nationally under head coach Joey McGuire and general manager James Blanchard.
Nance arrived at Texas Tech first as Director of Scouting before moving into the Director of Player Personnel role prior to the 2023 campaign. He was promoted to Assistant General Manager with oversight of high school recruiting following Texas Tech’s historic 2025 season where the Red Raiders won their first Big 12 title and appeared in the College Football Playoff. In his role, Nance, pairs with Blanchard in identifying future student-athletes as part of Texas Tech’s NFL model in its personnel department.
Texas Tech has signed three top-30 high school classes since Nance joined McGuire’s charter staff ahead of the 2022 season. The Red Raiders have prioritized relationships throughout the state of Texas since that time, which has landed Texas Tech several five-star prospect signees such as wide receiver Micah Hudson, offensive lineman Felix Ojo and outside linebacker LaDamion Guyton thanks in part to Nance’s efforts.
Texas Tech is coming off a 2026 class that ranked as high as No. 13 nationally by ESPN and No. 15 by 247Sports, marking its highest ranking since internet ratings became available. The Red Raiders have balanced signing the top prospects in the state of Texas with key additions via the transfer portal. Texas Tech landed On3’s top transfer portal class following the 2024 season and reloaded again this past offseason, signing another highly-rated class that ranked as high as No. 2 by the publication.
Nance joined the Red Raider football program after previously serving on the staff at Baylor where he worked alongside both McGuire and Blanchard. Nance joined the Baylor staff in 2019, first as assistant director of football operations under then head coach Matt Rhule before moving to the recruiting side as associate director of player personnel in 2020.
Baylor played in two Big 12 title games during Nance’s three seasons on staff as the Bears fell to Oklahoma in 2019 before topping Oklahoma State in 2021. Both trips led to appearances in the Allstate Sugar Bowl as Baylor was a combined 25-12 overall over his three seasons.
In addition to his time at the collegiate level, Nance joins a list of Texas Tech staffers who have experience as part of the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) after serving as an assistant coach at Temple High School near Waco in 2018. He joined the Baylor staff immediately following that football season.
Nance was a three-year letterwinner at Baylor from 2014-17 where he developed into one of the top defensive linemen in the Big 12 his senior season. Nance appeared in 38 games with 10 starts as a Bear, capping his tenure with a strong senior campaign that featured career highs with 33 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
A native of Buffalo, New York, Nance graduated from Euless (Texas) Trinity High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in 2012. He earned his degree in kinesiology and leisure studies from Baylor in 2018.
Nance and his girlfriend, Aereal Dickerson, a 2016 Baylor graduate, have three children: Jayvon, Brielle and Brian III.
