Jeff Cottrill joined the Red Raider coaching staff as an assistant on July 27, 2026.
Cottrill has made stops at Oklahoma State, Missouri and most recently fellow Big 12 school Houston. The long-time hitting coach spend seven seasons at Oklahoma State, two as director of softball operations and five as an assistant. During his time with the Cowgirls, he helped them to two trips to the Women's College World Series. He has experience both as a pitching coach and a hitting coach throughout his college coaching career.
In 2021, Oklahoma State put up impressive offensive numbers under Cottrill. The Cowgirls finished in the top ten nationally in home runs (93, sixth), doubles (88, eighth), runs (356, eighth), hits (488, 10th) and slugging percentage (.556, 10th). Cottrill helped two Cowgirl hitters receive NFCA All-American honors in 2021, with four hitters finishing with double-digit home run totals and six batting over .300 on the season. In his three years as the team's hitting coach, the Cowgirls never hit below .290 as a team and hit an average of 81 homers per year in the two complete seasons. The team also posted a combined slugging percentage of .512 with over a third of all hits going for extra bases.
After his stint in Stillwater, Cottrill made the jump to Missouri where he served as the hitting coach. At Mizzou, Cottrill helped the Tigers to a pair of NCAA Regional appearances including a Super Regionals berth in 2024. Mizzou recorded its highest home run total and slugging percentage under Cottrill in 2025, crushing 71 homers and slugging .467. While in Columbia, Mo., Cottrill mentored NFCA All-Americans in Alex Honnold (Second Team, 2023) and Julia Crenshaw (Third Team, 2025) as well as All-SEC selections in Jenna Laird (2023, 2024), Honnold (2023, 2024), Abby Hay (2024) and Crenshaw (2025).
Last season at Houston, he helped the Cougars hit 70 home runs compared to 32 the year prior. The team also slugged .496 and hit .285 and score 264 runs, all improvements from the previous season.
