Emily Hill joined Texas Tech in July of 2023. Hill serves as the program’s technical coordinator, as well as training attackers and blockers. She is also in charge of scouting and game planning.
In her second season at Tech, Hill saw junior outside Brynn Williams earn her first All-Big 12 Honor. Williams, along with senior outside Mia Wesley, both finished with over 300 kills. Alongside the two talented outsides, the Red Raider offense showed growth in all offensive statistical categories. On the academic side, three Red Raiders were named to the CSC Academic All-District Award List.
During her first season with Texas Tech, Hill saw the team finish with 2.29 blocks per set. Freshman middle blocker Kate Hansen led all Power 5 freshman and finished 3rd in the Big 12 with 1.27 blocks per set. She also finished the season with 20 solo blocks which placed her 2nd in the Big 12. Hill also saw two Red Raiders, Caitlin Dugan and Brynn Williams, finish the season with over 300 kills. Dugan also earned her 1000th career kill.
Hill most recently served as the assistant coach at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she trained all positions focusing mainly on first touch and defense. She also aided in recruiting efforts, team travel, summer camps and scheduling. Before heading to UTA, Hill was the graduate assistant for the Southern Methodist University volleyball program from September 2020 to December 2022.
With the Mustangs, Hill helped the team finish third in conference for two-consecutive seasons while coaching eight players to All-AAC accolades. During this time, Hill also worked with Texas Advantage Volleyball (TAV) as an assistant coach for five of their top ranked teams. All five teams finished top three in eight National Qualifiers and qualified for USAV Nationals. Most recently helping 18 Black qualify for Nationals.
Hill is a former Red Raider standout, playing for Texas Tech from 2017-19 and captaining the team for two seasons. During her tenure in the Scarlet & Black, Hill totaled 1,258 kills in 94 matches played. She also collected 84 aces, 909 digs, 148 total blocks and 1,427 points in her career at Tech. She is one of only four Red Raiders ever to tally 1000 kills and 1000 digs for her career. Her senior year Emily led the Big12 in total kills (491) which is the highest kill count by a Red Rider since 2006. Hill also ranked third in the conference in points (4.23 per set for a total of 545) with sixteen double doubles. Hill’s career high of 33 kills came against Ohio State her senior year, which helped Texas Tech to a tournament victory opening weekend. Having never missed a collegiate volleyball game, Hill started in every match during her career as a Red Raider as well as played every game at Mississippi State. For her career, she finished with 1,640 kills and 1,094 Digs.
A two-time All Big12 Team selectee as well two time Academic All-Big 12 honoree, Hill is all over the record book as she still ranks fourth in career kills and fifth in single season kills in program history. In 2019, Hill earned AVCA Southwest All-Region, All-Big 12 First Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team honors, while also adding an All-Big 12 Second Team award in 2018 to her resume. Among her additional accolades, Hill was named Big12 Offensive Player of the Week (9/2), two All-Big 12 Preseason Team nods, and received numerous All Tournament and Tournament MVP awards.
Prior to coming to Texas Tech, Hill played her freshman season at Mississippi State University in 2016, where she recorded 383 kills in 32 matches, a .228 hitting clip, 184 digs and 57 total blocks. Hill ranked second among all SEC freshmen in kills, and her 227 kill total during SEC play was the second highest among all freshmen and sophomores.
After graduating from TTU, Hill played professional volleyball with Hylte/Halmstad VBK in Sweden during 2020, where she started in every match and helped the team end their season on a winning streak.
Hailing from Denton, Texas, Hill graduated from Texas Tech University in December 2019 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management and received a Master of Science degree in Sport Management from SMU in December 2022.
