Valerie Flournoy

Valerie Flournoy joins the Texas Tech family after eight years with the Student-Athlete Enhancement and Gators Experience program at the University of Florida. At the University of Florida, Valerie oversaw the community outreach, leadership development, personal enhancement, and special projects for the Student-Athlete Enhancement program for all Gators student-athletes. She served as an advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Pride Affinity Group, and the Black Student-Athlete Council.
Flournoy served as an executive member of the Florida Gators Listen, Learn, and Act Initiative, an initiative aimed at providing resources, guidance, and companionship on the journey to learning about racial injustices to work towards a more just future. As an executive member, she found individual stories to highlight, contributed to “The Conversations That Matter,” collaborated on heritage months, provided insight on the student-athlete experience, and supported student-athletes and staff members at the University of Florida. Flournoy is known for creating programs that honor the needs of student-athletes and goal actualization conversations and workshops. You can see Valerie’s legacy in the creation of the Black Student-Athlete Council, First Year Gators Program, Pride Affinity Group, Class-Specific Swamp Talks, Hawkins Center LLA group, the Gators Experience Social Media accounts, expansion of student-athlete led initiatives, and relationships with student-athletes during and after their time at the University of Florida.
Flournoy is a member of the Women Leaders in College Sports 2019 Institute of Administrative Advancement, Women Leaders in College Sports, National Association of Academic and Student-Development Professionals, DIECE, Professional Association of Athlete Development Specialists, and Association of Junior Leagues International Inc.
Before her stint at the University of Florida, Valerie served as a Graduate Assistant for the Student Services Department at Florida State University from 2010-2012. As a Graduate Assistant, she collaborated, created, and implemented programs for Seminole student-athletes- including the summer bridge program, women in leadership development, all-sports banquet, student-athlete advisory committee, and individual student-athlete goal actualization. She participated in the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar in 2011.
At Florida State University, Flournoy also served as a Teaching Assistant with the Sport Management Department while earning her master’s degree in Sport Management. Flournoy taught undergraduate courses in volleyball, physical conditioning, and weightlifting in 2010 before becoming the Assistant to the Department Head in 2011. As an assistant, she created the alumni and internship database, advised future master’s degree students, and plan the annual sport management conference and internship fair. As a track & field student-athlete at Florida State University, she served as a team captain, vice-president of the Society for Human Resource Managers Student Group, and participant in the Women in Leadership Development Program.
Flournoy earned her undergraduate degree in human resources from Florida State in 2010 and later her master’s degree in sports administration in 2012.
