Red Raiders Look for Two Straight

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech?s women?s golf team will look to make it two-in-a-row this weekend at the 36th Annual Stanford/PEPSI Women?s Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. The Red Raiders won the Jeannine McHaney Memorial last week at the Lubbock Country Club for their first tournament win of the year.
Texas Tech joins host Stanford, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, California, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, San Jose State, Pepperdine, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Texas A&M, SMU, Tulsa and Indiana in the event. The tournament begins today at 8 a.m. The second round follows on Sat., Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. with the final round beginning with a shotgun start Sun., Oct. 24, also at 8 a.m.
The Red Raiders finished sixth out of 17 teams last season at the Stanford tournament. Departed senior Brooke Lowrance led Tech with a three-round 219 and a tie for seventh place.
Senior Jamie Vannoy leads the Tech contingent into the tournament with a team-high 75.9 stroke per round average on the season. The Sandy, Ore., native finished second last week in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial and has two top 20 finishes to her credit in three events this fall. Freshman Stephanie Dukes has turned in two top finishes in three events and follows Vannoy with a 76.2 stroke per round average. Dukes finished tied for sixth in her first collegiate outing at the Big 12 Preview in Lincoln, Neb.
The Red Raiders dominated the 13-team field last week in Lubbock on the final day, posting an impressive 296 on the final day to overtake four teams and win the team title. Tech is averaging 310.2 strokes per round as a team in nine round this season.
