Henegar Captures Hal Sutton Title

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior Corey Henegar (Austin, Texas / Rice University) posted a 1-under par 71 to win the individual title and lead Texas Tech to the team title at the Hal Sutton Invitational at the Olde Oaks Golf Club in Shreveport, La., Tuesday. The title is the first for the Red Raiders this season.
Henegar out-lasted four other golfers, including teammate David Bolen, who all tied for second in the event. Bolen, a sophomore transfer from San Antonio, earned his second top 10 finish in his fifth collegiate tournament.
Tech won the event with a three-round total of 876, while Oral Roberts and New Orleans tied for second in the team standings with a total score of 884.
Freshman Mark Hull (San Antonio / Churchhill) shot a 5-over 221 to finish tied in seventh place, while freshman Trey Pyka (San Antonio / Churchhill) finished alone in 14th place with a 9-over 225. Newcomer Brooks Kelly (Sierra Vista, Ariz. / Buena) posted a 236 in the two-day event to finish tied in 28th place.
The tournament marked the final competitive event for the Red Raiders for the fall season. Tech tees it up again at the University of Michigan Wolverine Invitational in Beaufort, S.C., March 4-5, 2000.
