LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head basketball coach James Dickey announced today that Marcus Shropshire of South Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University and compete for the Red Raiders beginning in the 2000-01 season. Shropshire joins Jamal Brown (Fort Scott CC) in the early signing period class for Tech.
?Marcus is an outstanding young man who has an excellent basketball background,? Dickey said. ?He?s strong, has great court awareness and understands how to run a team and score. He?s a terrific three-point shooter.?
Shropshire enters this season as the No.1 rated senior point guard in the state and fifth-rated player overall, according to recruiting guru Mike Kunstadt. Shropshire averaged 13 points and seven assists per game as a junior and earned all-region and first-team All-District 5-5A honors.
