LUBBOCK, Texas - Andy Ellis and Mario Layne combined for 42 points as the Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated Global Sports 90-80 in Monday's final exhibition game.
The Red Raiders were out for a little bit of revenge with the Global Sports team as they defeated Tech last season in an exhibition game 88-82. On the night, Tech was led by sophomore center Andy Ellis who poured in a team-high 22 points and 12 rebounds.
It was a seesaw battle throughout much of the first half, thanks impart to the hot shooting of Global Sports Ray Thompson. Thompson was 2 of 4 from the three-point line and tallied 16 first half points. Thompson was the high scorer in the game with 32 points.
In the second half, the Red Raiders turned 11 Global Sports turnovers into 12 points to take control of the game. With 11:21 remaining in the game, Brodney Kennard hit a jumper to spark a 13-5 scoring run to seal Tech's second exhibition win of the year.
In all, four Red Raiders finished in double digit scoring, Rayford Young (19), Andy Ellis (22), Mario Layne (20) and James Ware (10).
The Red Raiders will host Bobby Knight's Indiana Hoosiers on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. before a national ESPN television audience. The game will be the first ever game to be held in the new United Spirit Arena.
