Brooke Lowrance tied for first at UCLA tournament

TEMECULA, Calif. - Texas Tech University women's golfer Brooke Lowrance is tied for first after the opening round of the Pioneer Electronics/Bruin Classic with a 1-over-par 73.
The Snyder, Texas, junior is tied with Oklahoma's Isabelle Blais after the first day on the par 72, 6,019-yard Menefee Lakes Country Club layout. The two golfers lead a group of nine golfers bunched up in second with a 2-over 74.
The Red Raiders are in ninth out of 18 teams after the first round with a 315 total, 16 shots behind front-running Oregon. Stanford and Tulsa are tied for second at 304. New Mexico State (308) and Arizona State (309) round out the top five.
Texas (312) is tied for sixth with Tennessee, while Nebraska (322) is 12th and Oklahoma (325) is 15th.
Other than Lowrance's 73, only Lubbock sophomore Alana Soliz broke 80, firing a 6-over 78 to tie for 30th. Jamie Vannoy and Beth Covington, each shooting 10-over rounds of 82, are tied for 56th. Senior Kristin Kight, tied for 76th, struggled to a 12-over 84.
The 54-hole tournament continues tomorrow and conludes on Wednesday.
